Its author is Jeffrey Goldberg, no one else than the editor in chief of this news medium … who accidentally witnessed a chat that was supposed to be top secret.
And no, it is not a joke. The “senior federal administration officers” of MAGA the US government really committed this gigantic mistake.
Of course, the reaction of implicated people was to deny …

TMN’s nerds’ unanimous reaction to it was like:

So, why were they on Signal?
About a (¿simple?) chat on “Signal”
What is even more enlightening, below the superficial level of this mess, in how … And we’ll stop here (let’s just say that the damage is already done).
We don’t feel competent in commenting the political aspect of this incident.
The technical part is more our thing, and it’s damning too.
Let us start with the quasi-certitude we have that the complete transcription of the Signal Chat has, of course, been saved … In multiple copies, just in case something would happen to Mr Goldberg. For one.
Then, we have no doubt that the US federal administration frantically asked Signal Messenger’s executives to erase the incriminating chat …
… Which was already saved (and archived) all around the world in every single Signal app’s mirror server.
A world is more responsive than the other
Any doubt on the velocity of reaction of Internet nerds? One day after the publication in the The Atlantic, the Wikipedia article on Jeffrey Goldberg already included a chapter on the subject.
And this was manual editing, while making a complete backup of Signal database is automatic.
Note: Wikipedia also has several replications of its international base (Hi, Elon!).
This is a showcase of how two worlds can sharply be incompatible. The ignorance of acting high US executives is flabbergasting on issues that should be their main concern.
AKA they cannot erase what they did nor what they are doing.
A final question remains: if they were using a commercial application, what happened to the secret tools the US government normally uses?
Did DOGE destroy them too? It would be very funny sad.
